Next Level Narrative Therapy Group

Led by: Abeeb Oki, MEd, LPC-Associate

Supervised by: Saharah Shrout, MA, LPC-S

About the Narrative Therapy Group

The Narrative Therapy Group helps individuals explore their personal stories, separate themselves from their problems, and reconnect with their identity in a compassionate, empowering way. Narrative Therapy teaches that you are not the problem - the problem is the problem. Through structured practice and guided discussion, participants learn how to externalize challenges, uncover strengths, and “re-author” their story in a way that supports healing and growth.

This group is ideal for anyone wanting to understand their experiences through a new lens and develop a healthier, more empowered relationship with their narrative.

FAQs

What is Narrative Therapy?

Narrative Therapy is a collaborative therapeutic approach that helps individuals view themselves as separate from their struggles. By exploring personal stories and externalizing problems, clients gain clarity, confidence, and a renewed connection to their strengths.

How do group sessions help?

The group setting provides a supportive space to learn, reflect, and practice Narrative Therapy techniques with others who share similar goals. Participants often find that hearing others’ stories helps them recognize patterns and possibilities in their own.

Do I need any previous therapy experience?

No prior experience is needed. The group is open to all experience levels, whether you’re new to therapy or looking to deepen your current work.

Is this group appropriate if I already have a therapist?

Yes. Many clients participate in this group in addition to individual therapy to gain new skills, perspectives, and community support.

What happens after the 5 weeks?

The group restarts from Week 1. Participants may choose to repeat the group to explore new themes or begin a new “story arc,” while new participants can join the next cycle.

Is the virtual group the same as the in-person one?

Yes. Both formats follow the same curriculum and offer the same structured, interactive approach. Virtual sessions are open to any Texas resident.
