Meet Saharah Shrout - Owner of OATH Therapy
Hi, I’m Saharah Shrout, a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and founder of OCD & Anxiety Treatment of Houston. I specialize in helping teens and adults navigate the most overwhelming parts of their mental health, especially when OCD or anxiety has taken over the driver's seat.
If you're feeling stuck in cycles of intrusive thoughts, avoidance, or perfectionism, you're not alone, and help is available. My goal is to create a space where you can explore what's happening in your mind with curiosity instead of fear, and take practical steps toward getting your life back.
Why I Do This Work
I’ve always been drawn to helping people understand themselves more deeply and respond to their struggles with compassion. But what really drove me to open OATH was the realization that so many people with OCD go years without the right diagnosis or treatment, especially when their symptoms are more internal, hidden, or misunderstood.
I’m especially passionate about *Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)* and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) because these approaches help clients face their fears without judgment and reclaim the things OCD or anxiety has stolen from them—relationships, freedom, identity, peace.
My Approach in the Therapy Room
You can expect sessions with me to be collaborative, structured, and validating. We’ll build a strong foundation first, so you feel seen, safe, and understood, then move into practical skills and exposures that help retrain your brain’s response to fear and doubt.
Whether I’m working with a teenager overwhelmed by intrusive thoughts or an adult who’s been silently managing OCD for decades, I show up with both clinical expertise and deep compassion. I’m not here to “fix” you; I’m here to walk with you while you build a more empowered relationship with your thoughts and emotions.
What I Wish Everyone Knew About OCD & Anxiety
OCD isn’t a personality quirk or a need for cleanliness. It’s a chronic mental health condition that thrives on fear, doubt, and avoidance.
It can attach itself to anything, morality, relationships, harm, religion, identity, and the thoughts that come with it can be terrifying and deeply distressing. But having intrusive thoughts doesn’t mean you believe them or want them. It means your brain is stuck in overprotection mode.
The good news? ERP works. OCD is one of the most treatable mental health conditions, with the right support.
A Few Fun Things About Me
- I’m a Houston native and love this city’s energy, diversity, and no-nonsense spirit.
- When I’m not in the office, you’ll probably find me listening to true crime podcasts, drinking coffee I forgot to finish hours ago, or hanging out with my family.
- I’m a huge believer in therapy that’s both evidence-based and deeply human.
Who I Work Best With
I work with:
- Teens and Adults navigating anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, chronic doubt, and big life transitions, panic, or burnout
- Parents and family members who want to understand and support their loved one’s mental health without enabling compulsions
I’m especially attuned to clients who feel “too much,” “not enough,” or “stuck in their head.” If that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.
