Everything You Need to Know About Our Teen Summer IOP
A Brief-Intensive Summer Program in Houston for Teens with Anxiety, OCD, and Perfectionism
Summer often brings relief from school stress, but for many teens with anxiety or OCD, the lack of structure can actually make symptoms worse. If your teen is struggling with worry, intrusive thoughts, avoidance, or perfectionism, the summer months are an ideal time to focus on healing.
At OCD & Anxiety Treatment of Houston (OATH), we offer a 1-week teen Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that provides targeted, evidence-based support during the summer.
Below are answers to some of the most common questions about this brief, yet powerful, program.
What is the Teen Summer IOP at OATH Therapy?
The Teen Summer IOP is a 1-week intensive therapy program for teens ages 13 to 17 experiencing anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, or panic. This brief IOP provides structured support using evidence-based treatment models including:
- CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
- ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention)
- ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
Each day includes group therapy, individual check-ins, mindfulness practices, and skill-building activities. It’s an ideal summer option for teens who need more than weekly therapy but may not require a full-length outpatient program.
Who is this summer IOP for?
Our Houston teen IOP is best suited for:
- Teens diagnosed with OCD, anxiety, social anxiety, or perfectionism
- Teens who are feeling stuck in weekly therapy
- Teens who are home for the summer and need structured support
- Teens preparing to enter or transition from a higher level of care
- Families looking for a short-term, evidence-based option
When does the summer program take place?
We are offering three separate 1-week IOP sessions in Houston:
June 9–13: Teen Track (ages 13–17)
July 7–11: Adult Track (ages 18+)
August 4–8: Young Adult Track (ages 18–25)
Sessions typically run Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Final schedules are confirmed during the intake process.
What makes this program different from weekly therapy?
The OATH Summer IOP offers more than a month’s worth of therapy in just five days. Unlike weekly sessions, our summer program for teens:
- Provides daily support and practice of coping skills
- Encourages exposure and behavioral activation in real time
- Creates rapid momentum and progress
- Helps teens build structure and accountability during summer break
This is a highly focused OCD summer program that helps teens feel empowered rather than overwhelmed.
Are parents involved in the program?
Yes. Parent support is a core part of our teen IOP in Houston. The program includes:
- A parent orientation to help families understand the process
- A wrap-up session to review progress and provide recommendations
We equip parents with tools to support their teen’s progress after the program ends.
How many teens are in each group?
We intentionally keep our group sizes small, typically 4 to 6 teens per cohort, to ensure personalized attention, emotional safety, and a close-knit peer environment.
How do I know if this summer IOP is right for my teen?
This intensive outpatient program may be a good fit if your teen:
- Struggles with OCD, anxiety, perfectionism, or avoidance
- Is open to therapy or willing to try a new approach
- Needs more structure during the summer
- Wants to make meaningful progress before the new school year
If you're unsure, we offer free phone consultations to help determine if this program is the best next step for your family.
How do we sign up for the Houston teen IOP?
You can schedule an intake consultation with our team. We’ll guide you through the process, answer any additional questions, and help you secure a spot for your teen.
